OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland Roots SC earned a valuable point on Saturday night, battling to a 1-1 draw with FC Tulsa after a resilient defensive performance anchored by goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel.

The Roots got off to the perfect start when Johnny Prentice found the back of the net in the 3rd minute, giving Oakland an early 1-0 lead. Despite facing sustained pressure for much of the evening, the Roots held firm until Tulsa equalized in the 70th minute.

Oakland spent long stretches defending as Tulsa controlled 55% possession and outshot the Roots 20-7, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on target. However, the home side showed tremendous resilience, limiting the damage through organized defending and outstanding goalkeeping.

Spiegel was the difference-maker for Oakland, finishing with seven saves while earning a match-high 8.48 FotMob rating. The veteran goalkeeper repeatedly denied Tulsa opportunities, helping preserve a point for the Roots despite the visitors recording 37 touches inside Oakland’s penalty area.

Defensively, Oakland answered every challenge. The Roots finished with 44 clearances, three blocks, and won 51% of all duels, reflecting the determination that kept Tulsa from finding a late winner.

Prentice not only gave Oakland its early breakthrough but was also one of the club’s top performers with a 7.8 match rating. Defender Michael Edwards delivered another strong shift at the back, earning a 7.9 rating after helping lead the defensive effort.

Although Oakland created fewer opportunities, the Roots made their chances count, producing three big chances during the match and remaining dangerous on the counterattack.

While the Roots would have preferred all three points, the performance showcased the team’s grit and defensive character. Against a Tulsa side that dominated possession and generated significantly more attacking opportunities, Oakland stood tall to secure a deserved point in front of its home supporters.
